Who We Are

We were those kids who grew up in the mud, under the stars, unsupervised by adults, in rural Colorado; who went to a state universities and wandered into our classes about global peace with grass in our hair after drinking a pitcher of beer and playing frisbee. We’ve been friends for decades, and have richoched off each other over the years as we each bumbled through the world trying to plant seeds that make it a more compassionate and free place for everyone, in our own respective ways. We don’t really exist online, but are intensely present wherever and with whomever we are in each moment. We are dreamers trying to find a way to reimagine the possibilities of politics.

What We’re Trying to Do

We are trying to set in motion locally-driven, grassroots changes to how we govern ourselves that uproot the pathologies intrinsic to our current political system and embrace randomness as an effective and equalizing civic decision-making mechanism.

The Questions We’re Asking

What if solutions to big problems requires surrender? A humble acceptance of how little we actually know: about our own minds and other species; the crescent moon in the sky and the dark depths of the ocean; the behavior of subatomic particles and why it changes when watched; the dirt underneath our feet and the canvas of constantly changing horizons suspended above our heads. What if the entanglement of ego with our pursuit of certitude is our greatest fallibility? What if we’re holding on too tightly to an approach to change-making that isn’t accepting of the fundamental randomness of causality? What if we are going about this all wrong? And what if we’re so confined in our thinking by current trajectories and paradigms telling us we’re right that we haven’t even considered that possibility?

At Project Random we think that all good ideas begin with asking hard questions from a place of humble curiosity and an awareness that many questions we simply don’t have answers to. So in our endeavor to reimagine the possibilities of politics from the ground up, we are starting here. With hard questions.
